WHAT IS THE YA COMPANY?
The LHDC Young Adult Company is a multi-genre dance program for versatile dancers aged 18+ who want to train, create, and perform. Running approximately two Sundays a month from January to August, the program alternates between shorter educational workshops/rehearsal intensives and longer choreography intensives. In each choreography block, dancers work with a different Choreographer to develop a new piece that will ultimately form their own show, presented as a double bill with Lion Heart Youth Company in August 2027.
Joining the YA Company offers dancers elite-level training designed to elevate maturity, artistry, and versatility. We focus on building strong company values and fostering a supportive, family-like environment while providing a diverse, multi-genre experience for dancers who love exploring more than one style. As a low-frequency, high-intensity program, it’s designed to fit around a young adult’s lifestyle - making it possible to continue dancing alongside uni, work, full-time study, dance teaching, or other commitments.
WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?
- Intermediate-advanced level dancers aged 18 - 25
- Dancers transitioning out of their dance school or youth company
- Dancers who have completed or are currently completing* full time dance and are looking for extra learning and performing opportunities OR dancers who have chosen not to go into full-time dance but still wish to be committed to a dance program at an advanced level
- Dancers looking for community
- Dancers who want to perform and expand their movement vocabulary
- Dancers who want a lower commitment program in order to balance work/uni/life
- Young dance teachers who wish to continue dancing to expand their movement vocab and teaching skills
- LHDC Youth Company Dancers who have turned 18 and want to continue their LHDC journey
*If you are in a full-time dance institution in 2027 you will need to be granted permission from that institution in order to be a part of our program
WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR IN AN APPLICANT?
To be selected for the Young Adult Company you must be a strong intermediate to advanced level dancer who has trained in multiple genres and be technically proficient in either ballet, jazz or contemporary.
A Young Adult Dancer also requires maturity, self accountability and a strong work ethic. As a YA you are by default a role model for our Youth Company Dancers as we work closely together throughout the year. YA’s are valued for not only their skills as a dancer, but their ability to uphold and demonstrate the LHDC Values: Leadership, Innovation, Openness and Nurture.
PROGRAM DETAILS
- When: approximately two Sundays a month (specific dates in application page 3)
- Time: 10:00am - 4:30pm for choreography sessions
10:00am - 2:00pm shorter sessions for workshop and rehearsals intensives
- Location: suburbs on the outskirts of inner Melbourne (e.g. The Space Dance & Arts Centre)
- Cost: TBC later in 2026, approximations below
$1,999 - $1,850 Full price

Your first invoice will be sent upon completion of your enrolment form to secure your spot (successful applicants only)
Our 2027 Young Adult Company commences on January 24th & 25th 2027. Your application must be in before program commencement.
